Christmas is the time we gather around the tree to celebrate the holidays and spend time with family and friends.

The Christmas tree provides a great opportunity to form traditions in your home. Selecting items that have special meaning will remind you each year as you pull them out of the box of Christmases past.

The tree is not traditionally a part of Christmas, as it relates to Jesus’ birth. It was introduced when the Germans immigrated to America and soon became a tradition in many homes across America.

Today as Christians, we are called to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, to celebrate the freedom that He brings. The tree we introduce into our celebrations can also be a reminder of such events as the star that lit the way for the wise men, or ornaments depicting the manger scene where he was born most humbly to a young obedient girl who would give birth to the newborn king. We can hang angels to remind us of the heavenly blessings that surround us here on earth.

While the holiday bustle rolls in again this year, I hope that you will take a step back and focus on THE meaning of all that is circling in our lives at this busy time and that you will incorporate traditions that remind you and those you love to savor the birth that brought Christmas to be.

May the blessings of the season surround you and yours this Christmas.
